When I was living in France and co-leading a team at work, my co-leader would always say:
Vision is a leaky bucket. And who doesn’t hate a leaky bucket…it’s inefficient and only effective for a short period of time.
If not properly communicated and left unattended, vision will leak and leave you and your team ineffective.
Vision can be one of those statements on a wall in your office, or on that strategic plan that you never really look at anymore. But true vision isn’t just a statement – it’s an experience we’re working toward.
If your vision is powerful, it should motivate you:
- Is your vision motivating? If not, what do you need to change in order for it to be motivating?
- Are you lacking vision at work, chances if you are, so are your co-workers. Who do you need to ask to re-cast some vision to you?
- If you lack vision for your own life, start asking yourself questions like Why do I like doing what I do?
- How might I turn my passions into a vision for my life?
